Welcome

Welcome to Click by Click.

While it is very much still a work in progress (Very much in fact! I think the lay-out may change drastically over the next few weeks, it's just not what I had in mind...not sure I like the name either!), the main purpose of the site is to explore new ways of thinking about the problems that face our world (climate change, poverty, drugs, dwindling resources etc...adaptive challenges...but more on that later) and the leadership / thinking that we will need to develop to deal with them. It is aimed at people in every walk of life in both their work and private lives.

I have spent ages, in fact way too long, thinking about whether to release the site in such an un-finished form. In the end one of the theories I will share with you at some point in the future swayed my thinking. One of the elements of the theory of Sensemaking, as developed by Karl Weick, is that we need plausibility in our perceptions of the world around us to act, not accuracy. If we wait for total accuracy we will be waiting for ever...so the cycle should be plausibility, action, sensemake, plausibility, action, sensemake and so on. I thought what I had developed so far was plausible to share so here we are. I'll sensemake it all based on comments I receive and so the cycle continues! :-)

The site is going to be based around, and grow from, some of the concepts from the leadership unit that I teach at a Business School here is Western Australia. And for those who know me, I promise to try very hard to not make every example about climate change! :-) I think it is very important I do that because the ideas have much more wide-ranging applications than that.

I'm planning for the site to be informative, informal, interesting and fun, with the content primarily reference material supporting the blog and other stuff...as yet to be defined.:-) I'm also hoping to develop a community of like, and unlike, thinkers via forums...from little things big things grow! And, while the intent is mainly to share information and thinking, if I can keep the wolves from the door at the same time it will be a real bonus.

There is much more to come but, for now, if you want to chat about anything then please or pop over to the blog, which is already up and running.

I'll speak to you soon!

Regards

Warren

Did you know....

Most CDs are sold as a "package within a package," meaning that the actual CD is housed in a plastic "jewel box," which fits into a cardboard box, twice its size. This is the prime example of useless packaging, just to make the consumer believe they are buying more. These cardboard boxes from CDs alone now add up to 23 million pounds of rubbish annually!Source
